Monday, June 28th, is International Pride Day. To commemorate the occasion, Valencia CF have collaborated with the Peña Valencianista LGTBI for a campaign against LGTBIphobia that took place at Mestalla and was shown this past Saturday on social media.
Juan Campillo, president of the Peña Valencianista LGTBI, told VCF MEDIA that this initiative consists of “launching a campaign so that people know that there is a LGTBI peña, and that they can sign up and become aware of what would happen if there were no peña like ours."
The president of this supporters club also notes that Valencia CF "are the first LaLiga team to have an LGTBI supporters club, while in other countries such as England or Germany all clubs have one. We want Valencia CF to be a point of reference for Spanish football in the fight against LGTBIphobia."
Amparo Ramada, secretary of the Peña Valencianista LGTBI, added that “football is normally known as not being open to the people who make up our group, but fortunately with a supporters club like ours we can make football more tolerant, open and diverse. It is important that there is this diversity so that football is part of society."
